John Bostock is an ISM Registered Private Teacher

With a Master's degree in Music and Liturgy I can provide advice and support to clergy, PCCs and other lay people leading to an increased understanding of the synergy between music and liturgy in Common Worship.

I am a professional organist and retired teacher, having been Head of Music at Armley Middle School, Leeds and Teacher of Music and Religious Studies at Rossett High School, Harrogate.

During my teaching career I developed an interest in liturgical studies through the teaching of GCSE Religious Studies.

After taking early retirement, I gained a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree, followed by a Master of Arts Degree in Music and Liturgy through Leeds University.

On my appointment as Liturgical Organist and Director of Music at St Mary's Parish Church, Haxby, York, I was able to apply the concepts of this training.

St Mary's had a liturgy based on the Alternative Service Book (1980) formula and very traditional musical ideas.

My remit was to bring this church into the twenty-first century and develop all-age worship with both the Eucharist and Evensong through the correct use of Common Worship liturgy, including all genres of music (ancient, modern, traditional and contemporary, as well as different cultures).

If you feel my expertise could benefit your church, please phone or email me for more information.
